“You should know your hindrance of harmful behavior is accumulated as vastly as the mountains and seas. But you should know that it can be eliminated by repentance through principle and repentance through activities. You should contemplate deeply that worshipper and worshipped are equally arisen in dependence on reality. You should have deep faith that the sympathetic response of the buddhas has no lapse, but follows immediately like shadows and echoes.” Charles Muller
“You must understand that the obstructions created by your own misdeeds are [as great as] the mountains or the seas; [but you also] must know that they can be dissolved through repentance in principle and repentance in deed. Deeply contemplate the fact that both the worshipper and the worshipped are conditionally generated from the true nature. Have profound faith that the sympathetic response [of the Buddha to your repentance] will not be missing, [just as] shadow and echo follow both [form and sound].” Robert Buswell
“You should understand that your wrongdoings are as vast as mountains and oceans. Therefore you must repent according to the principle that your wrongdoings are ultimately empty, and you must also repent by actually performing the traditional rituals. You must deeply perceive the true nature of yourself, the Buddha, and everything as being in accord with dependent arising. And you must have absolute faith that the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas always respond to your prayers, as certainly as shadows follow form and echoes follow sound.” Cheong Se Do’s paraphrase
