And here is a PowerPoint file with a preview of the class:

Heart Sutra Class Preview (PPT)

In this class you will learn how to write the Heart Sutra using Traditional Chinese characters. This is how the Heart Sutra was originally written/translated by Xuanzang almost 14 centuries ago. The practice of writing out Sutras by hand in Chinese characters is known as 寫經, which is pronounced xiě-jīng in Mandarin, and literally means “Copy Sutra”. Koreans pronounce it sag-yeong (사경). Japanese Buddhists use different characters: 写経. Don’t ask me why. In Japanese the characters are pronounced shya-kyo (しゃきょう).
